The design of Things That Matter was created through collaboration between Lynne Heller and Nancy Davis Halifax. Lynne Heller was responsible for transforming the design and content from a conceptual level to a virtual domain.

Nancy Viva Davis Halifax, Ph.D., was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at The Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, University Health Network and the Psychosocial and Behavioural Research Unit, Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre through the initiative Innovations in Cancer Education: Using Drama, Storytelling and the Arts for Information Dissemination on the Internet. She was also a Canadian Institutes for Health Research Strategic Training Post-Doctoral Fellow in Health Care, Technology and Place at the University of Toronto.
